Family and friends of Gary Field gathered at Ronald Reagan Park in East Anaheim on Wednesday, July 14th to plant a memorial tree in his honor. Mr. Field was the husband of Margie Hilgenfeld Field, former president of Anaheim Beautiful and founder of the tree memorial program. He is also the father of Anaheim Beautiful treasurer Becky Areias. The family chose a Tipuana Tipu species for its fast growing nature into what will provide a beautiful shade canopy with brilliant yellow flowers.
Margie Hilgenfeld Tree Memorial
We are currently holding plantings in several parks throughout the City of Anaheim. Restrictions may apply for the size of gatherings at our tree plantings based on CDC guidelines. Please email us for details or to schedule a planting.
One of Anaheim Beautiful’s most important programs is the Margie Hilgenfeld Tree Memorial program which offers the opportunity to plant a tree in memory of a loved one. In partnership with the City of Anaheim, the 24-inch box trees are planted in a park selected by the Community Services Department where they are installed and maintained. Family and friends may attend the tree planting and will be provided with a certificate commemorating the planting.
The cost of the memorial is $300. Any excess funds acquired by the Margie Hilgenfeld Memorial Tree Planting program go toward supporting the Thelma Jordan Scholarship Fund. This scholarship is granted to an individual who is pursuing his/her education in the field of Urban Environmental Studies. In 2016, the program was re-named in honor of Margie Hilgenfeld, a long time member of Anaheim Beautiful and one of the initial founders of the memorial tree planting program. Margie passed away in late 2015.
