We recently received this letter from one of our members. This is the kind of story that exemplifies how Anaheim Beautiful has been making a difference in the Anaheim community for 50 years!
I interviewed contractors for trimming my trees late last week. My first quote came from a group that I observed trimming the trees right next to my property. They seemed organized, and family run, had all the gear and equipment: PTS, Personalized Tree Services.
I got a quote from the owner’s son, Erick. I enjoyed conversing with him because he’s is a Certified Arborist, very amicable, proud of his company and enjoys sharing his knowledge. I mentioned that I work for the City of Anaheim, and he told me he wouldn’t be where he is today without Anaheim Beautiful. So I asked why, and he explained when he was a senior in high school he won a scholarship from Anaheim Beautiful that enabled him to attend college to pursue his career. He further recalled the day he won the scholarship, he also won the club raffle, which happened to be $1000 that day! I loved the story of course, and he loved telling the story. Long story short, I’ve hired his team and they’ll be trimming my property this coming Saturday.
I hope you enjoy the story as much as I do! His name is Erick Saldivar, he’s now probably in his early 20’s and is a shining example of people/families in Anaheim who are hardworking, happy and successful because of the support of others in the city AND Anaheim Beautiful.
Enjoy your day & week, and God Bless!
Each year Anaheim Beautiful award a scholarship to one or more high school seniors pursuing a degree in Urban Environmental Studies or related subjects. The program is funded by proceeds from the Margie Hilgenfeld Tree Memorial Program. Erick was the recipient of the 2015 Thelma Jordan Scholarship. It is such a wonderful tale of how Anaheim Beautiful made such a difference in his life. We hope this brings a smile to our members and all those who have supported Anaheim Beautiful and the Thelma Jordan Scholarship program over the years. Thank you!
