Anaheim Beautiful’s President’s Award is in recognition of an individual or group effort which makes Anaheim a better city. This year, the Salvation Army has received this honor for all it has done to make Anaheim a better place for residents, visitors and especially the homeless. For more than 130 years, the Salvation Army has been meeting needs and transforming the lives of countless people in Orange County. Their presence in the County began in 1998 as the Salvation Army expanded its work to the western United States. The first Salvation Army hall in Orange County was built on Sycamore Street in downtown Santa Ana in 1924. Since those early days, the organization’s presence has grown and expanded throughout the County. With churches, community centers, shelters, rehabilitation centers and multiple social service offices, the Army continues to provide unparalleled services and resources to people needing assistance and support. The Salvation Army assists over 80,000 individuals annually in Orange County. Families in crisis are provided food, utility assistance, clothing and transitional housing. Victims of human trafficking are finding comprehensive care and refuge at our safe homes. Young people are given a safe and structured environment in which to learn, grow and develop. Men and women struggling with addition are embracing recovery. With two shelters in operation, the County’s homeless are provided comfort and resources to help break the cycle of homelessness. People are receiving a helping hand for today and a great hope for tomorrow. Congratulations to the Salvation Army recipients of the 2019 Anaheim Beautiful President’s Award.
